SAIL Finance Director bags GSBA- Top Rankers Excellence Award

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Director (Finance) Shri Soiles Bhattacharya was conferred with the GSBA- Top Rankers Excellence Award 2009 under the ‘Best Finance Professional’ category at a function held in New Delhi yesterday. Shri Saugata Roy, Union Minister of State for Urban Development presented the award to Shri Bhattacharya in recognition of his multi-faceted entrepreneurial skills and for his contribution in helping SAIL register a spectacular performance setting new landmarks in physical and financial performance.

Instituted by management consultants Top Rankers, in association with the Graduate School of Business and Administration (GSBA), Greater Noida, the GSBA- Top Rankers Excellence Award is conferred annually to top industry professionals for their outstanding contribution in the fields of HR, marketing and finance.

During the meltdown in 2008-09, converting challenges into opportunities, Shri Bhattacharya helped SAIL to earn a respectable profit before tax of Rs. 9,403 crore. Under Shri Bhattacharya’s able guidance, SAIL and its plants both at corporate and unit categories received a number of awards for excellence in cost management in manufacturing sector for 2008. The company has also received commendations from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for better financial reporting practices and Annual Report for the year 2007-08 in the category of the manufacturing and trading enterprises. SAIL accounts have been adjudged as the recipient of Best presented accounts award for the year 2008 amongst public sector entries. The company was also adjudged second runner-up by South Asian Federation of Accountants for transparency, accountability & governance amongst the published annual reports from South Asian Countries.
