Modernization of Continuous Caster No. 5 at AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger Hütte)
Dillinger Hütte has placed an order for the modernization of its thickslab caster No. 5, (Steelplant Dillingen) with SMS Siemag, a company of the SMS group, Germany.
The SMS Siemag supply scope comprises the reinforcement of the withdrawal and straightening units as well as various spare parts.
The deal also includes the X-Pact® electrical and automation package for which SMS Siemag supplies the planning, production, programming of the electrical equipment and its complete installation, commissioning, trial operation as well as the training of the personnel.
The following are to be renewed: The automatic control equipment for the hydraulic resonance oscillation of the mold, the hydraulic segment adjustment, the hydraulic bending unit adjustment, the hydraulic adjustment system for the withdrawal and straightening units and the load compensation control for the strand drive group.
The functional sequences of Continuous Caster No. 5 are to be retained. The work itself and the commissioning will take place in 2010. The vertical-type continuous caster at Dillinger Hütte produces the world's thickest slabs, in the sizes 230 to 400 mm gage and 1,400 to 2,200 mm width. The original caster was supplied by SMS Siemag in 1998.
