Mineral production during April 2009


 
The mineral production from mining and quarrying sector in April 2009 was lower by 15.85% compared to that of the preceding month. However the mineral sector has shown a positive growth of 3.79% during April 2009 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during April 2009 was Rs. 8647 crore. The contribution of coal was the highest at Rs. 3157 crore (37%). Next in the order of importance were: iron ore Rs. 2098 crore, petroleum (crude) Rs. 1521 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 876 crore, lignite Rs. 242 crore and limestone Rs. 209 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 94% of the total value of mineral production in April 2009. 

Production level of important minerals in April 2009 were: coal 400 lakh tones, lignite 30 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 2837 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 27 lakh tones, bauxite 1217 thousand tonnes, chromite 431 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 13 thousand tonnes, gold 157 kg., iron ore 202 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 10 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 198 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 106 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 7 thousand tonnes, dolomite 355 thousand tonnes, limestone 182 lakh tonnes and magnesite 20 thousand tonnes. 

In April 2009 the output of natural gas (utilized) increased by 3.92%. The production of copper conc., zinc conc. and lead conc. remains at the level of previous month. However the production of limestone decreased by 0.92%, magnesite 2.08%, gold 2.48%, petroleum (crude) 4.45%, manganese ore 6.74%, dolomite 7.4%, iron ore 14.34%, bauxite 25.65%, chromite 26.41%, coal 29.22%, lignite 40.41%, apatite & phosphorite 29.49 percent.
