IIMB Seventh Annual International Conference on Public Policy & Management
Three-Day Conclave to Focus on “Societies in Transition”
Bangalore, India, August 10, 2012: The Centre for Public Policy (CPP) at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will hold its Seventh Annual International Conference on Public Policy and Management from August 16 to 18, 2012 at IIM Bangalore. The conference will focus on the theme, 'Societies in Transition'. The Conference seeks to encourage diverse discussion on this theme and thus will feature several papers analysing the subject from various perspectives, domains and disciplines.

Authors will present papers from areas related to Public Policy and Management from India and abroad.  These papers will cover various issues such as Gender Quotas and Public Policy, Public-Private-Partnerships, Urban Policy Issues and Middle Class in Activism amongst others. Further, leading scholars, along with business people, civil servants and NGO activists will engage with current issues and questions.

According to Professor Rajeev Gowda, Chairperson, Centre for Public Policy, IIM Bangalore, “This conference will bring together a range of scholars and practitioners on the cutting edge of public policy. It will provide valuable exposure for advanced students and people interested in policy issues”

The conference will feature prominent speakers including Subir Gokarn (RBI), Syeda Hameed (Planning Commission), Yogendra Yadav (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies), Ashutosh Varshney (Brown University), Govinda Rao (National Institute of Public Finance and Policy), Kulwant Singh (UN-Habitat), Ramkishen Rajan (George Mason) and Ravi Rajan (University of California, Santa Cruz). In addition the conference will be attended by distinguished professors from institutions in India and abroad, including IIMB, George Mason, Østfold University College, Indian Statistical Institute, University of California and the National University of Singapore

For the first time, the conference features a Public Policy Hackathon. The conference will see two sessions dealing with the possible impact of NSSO data; for example, several government decisions are based on the analysis of NSSO data. NSSO data is important for decision-making. 

ABOUT CPP

The Centre for Public Policy is a leading policy think tank engaged in cutting-edge research, teaching, training and capacity building. The Centre has come a long way since 2000 when the centre was created jointly through a partnership between the Department of Personnel Training (DoPT), Government of India, Government of Karnataka, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IIM Bangalore.
