Drinking Water Supply in Urban Areas
Water supply is one of the admissible components of infrastructure development for providing financial assistance under Urban Infrastructure Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT). So far 452 water supply projects have been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 8891.54 crore involving central commitment of Rs. 7184.48 crore, out of which an amount of Rs. 5978.74 crore has been released to the States so far.

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) is implementing the North Eastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP) with the financial assistance from Asian Development Bank (ADB) covering capital cities of 5 North Eastern States viz. Agartala (Tripura), Aizawl (Mizoram), Gangtok (Sikkim), Kohima (Nagaland), and Shillong (Meghalaya).

Under Urban Infrastructure & Governance (UIG) Sub-Mission of JNNURM, Water Supply is one of the admissible components of grant of Additional Central Assistance (ACA). So far 157 projects on Water Supply Sector have been approved with approved cost of Rs.2048589.03 lakh and ACA commitment of Rs.1008819.48 lakh for various Mission cities during the Mission period i.e. 2005-2012.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Urban Development Shri Saugata Roy in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
