SAIL Director  inaugurates new line at SSP

 

Shri Soiles Bhattacharya, Director (Finance), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) visited Salem Steel Plant (SSP) on December 18 and 19.  He met Executive Director, Shri Pankaj Gautam and senior officials and reviewed the plant’s performance including the post-modernisation and expansion activities, which comprise installation of steel melting facilities making it an integrated unit, apart from enhancing of cold rolling and hot rolling capacities. 

 

During the visit, the Director (Finance) who is currently also holding the additional charge of Director (Technical), inaugurated the new Annealing and Pickling Line (AP Line), an important unit of its new Cold Rolling Mill complex.  The state-of-the-art line installed at a cost of around ` 266.80 crores has been supplied by Andritz AG, Austria who are the leading equipment manufacturers for stainless steel processing lines.  The consortium of suppliers includes M/s ABB Limited and MICCO, Kolkata. 

 

The newly inaugurated line has a designed capacity of 5,00,000 tonnes per annum.  Presently, the line will process the entire hot rolled coils from Hot Rolling Mill to produce 1,93,000 tonnes of hot rolled annealed and pickled coils in No.1 condition and 1,62,000 tonnes will be processed further in the Cold Rolling Mills of the plant.  The cold rolled stainless steel capacity of the plant will go up from present 72,000 tonnes level to 1,46,000 tonnes per annum.

 

The AP Line has been provided with Level-2 automation for consistent product quality, enhanced productivity and competitive product cost.  One of the most important features of the line is the pollution control equipments incorporated in its design to meet the stringent emission norms as per international standards.
