First Production Blast at Tonkolili

African Minerals Limited (AIM: AMI or “the Company”), the iron ore project development company that is developing the Tonkolili project in Sierra Leone, West Africa (“the Project”) is pleased to announce the commencement of formal mining operations at the Simbili part of the orebody. The first production blast for the Direct Shipping Ore (“DSO”) Phase 1 material occurred successfully on Friday 17th December 2010.

The Phase 1 dry plant process equipment was also commissioned during the course of the week, with the wet process plant to follow. The first production blast ore will be used to commission additional process facilities, and to commence stockpiling operations as the Company builds up towards the Company’s planned first ore on ship in Q4 2011.

Alan Watling, CEO, commented: “On Friday, our Company achieved a historic goal. This memorable event marks another milestone in the Company’s development which has seen us progress rapidly from Tonkolili's rediscovery 3 years ago, through its development stage from a magnetic anomaly to become a major commercial orebody and now towards mine production.”
