INCIDENT OF BF gas leakage at DURGAPUR STEEL PLANT ON 15TH JULY’10
At about 11.15 am today, some employees working in the cast house area of Blast Furnace no. 2 reported feeling of discomfort of breathing and drowsiness. Immediately, these people were taken to the plant medical unit where the doctors provided first aid and later they were shifted to DSP Main Hospital for further medical care.
Out of total 25 persons affected, including contract labour, 10 persons have been released and remaining persons are being attended for treatment and kept under observation at DSP Main Hospital. All are out of danger.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was some leakage of BF gas from scrubber area of gas cleaning plant of BF-2. This was promptly detected and rectified immediately. Plant operations are continuing as normal.
A committee headed by a General Manager of the plant has been constituted to enquire into the matter.
