Major food Commodity Prices Steady or decline in Many Parts of the Country
  
In the week ending 13.05.2010, prices of wheat, rice and sugar have remained steady at most of the reporting centres where prices are monitored by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

According to data released by the Department of Consumer Affairs, prices of wheat decreased at Chennai, Dindigul and Guwahati and remained steady at all the reporting centres except for an increase at Vijayawada, whereas prices of rice decreased at Delhi and Dindigul remained steady at most of other reporting centres.

Sugar prices declined at Lucknow and Thiruvanthapuram and remained steady at most of the other reporting centres.

Prices of edible oils also remained steady at most of the places.

At Delhi, prices of rice, gram and tur dal became cheaper over the week, while wheat, atta, masoor dal, urad dal, milk, groundnut oil, mustard oil, vanaspati, onion and potato remained steady. Prices of moong dal and sugar prices registered a marginal increase.

Out of 5.90 lakh tonne of imported pulses which have arrived in the country, 5.86 lakh tonne have been disposed by the PSUs up to 10.5.2010. 2.51 lakh tonne have been supplied under Public Distribution System up to 31st March 2010
