GERMAN SOLAR DELEGATION

Kolkata, May, 2010:

A 10 – member German Solar Delegation is in Kolkata, since 3rd May and will be here until 7th May 2010.  During their stay in Kolkata, the delegation members have made visits to the plants and offices of a number of Indian entrepreneurs from the renewable energy sector to establish business contacts for joint ventures and /or collaborations for technology and distribution of their products and systems in India.

The Solar Delegation is a part of the ‘’Renewable Energy Export Inifiative’’ inifiative by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology (BMWI) in Berlin. This inifiative is jointly executed by the Renewables Academy (RENAC) and by the Bi-National German Chamber’s network (AHK), represented in India by indo German Chamber of Commerce.  This delegation’s visit is supported by West Bengal Green Energy  Developent Corporation Ltd.

On 6th May 2010 a presentation meeting on solar technologies was held at the Hotel Oberoi  Grand, Kolkata. At this meeting Mr. Berthold  Breid,  CEO.  Renewables  Academy – made a presentation on the subject of ‘’Renewables Energy in Germany – political framework and market development.’’

Mr. Matthias Raab, Managing Director, PV Projects Agency and Mr. Anton Neuhauser, project Manager, Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energies made very interesting presentations on the subject of ‘’Solar Energy- Status and perspective’’ and ‘’Solar Technology from Germany- solar thermal, solar cooling and solar thermal power plants’’.

Dr. G.D.Gautama, principal Secretary, power and Non Conventional Energy Sources, Government of West Bengal and Dr. S. P. Gon Chaudhuri, CEO, West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Ltd., spoke on the various plans and projects for renewable energy- with a special focus on solar in West Bengal.

Mr. Guenter Wehrmann, Hon’ble Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany mentioned that India could be one of the emerging markets for solar energy after Germany, Japan and China in the coming Years. He also mentioned that in a tropical country like India, solar energy offers the most effective solution to meet the energy demand.

Mr. B. G. Roy, Regional Director, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce welcomed the delegation and mentioned that after almost a year, a major business delegation from Germany on ‘’Solar Energy’’ has come to visit Kolkata. This was a very welcome sign and he wished that with the support of the West Bengal Government and the German Consulate many more business delegation  visits will fallow in the coming months.

SMA Solar Technology AG-the world’s largest producer in this segment, Masdar PV GmbH, SUNSET Energietechnik GmbH, IMO Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG, ib vogt Gmbh and Schletter GmbH were some of the participating companies and presented latest developments in solar industry technology.
