SMS Siemag's submerged-arc furnace successfully put into operation at Yunnan Xinli Nonferrous Metals
SMS Siemag, Germany, successfully put into operation a 30-MW DC furnace for the production of titanium-oxide (TiO2) slag at Yunnan Xinli Nonferrous Metals Co. Ltd. (China Yunnan Metallurgical Group CYMG) in Wuding, Yunnan Province, China.
The scope of supply included the basic and detail engineering for the furnace, the cooling and instrumentation. Together with the furnace shell with an inside diameter of 9,820 mm and a volume of 420 m³, the refractory material, the hollow-electrode system, the charging system and the hydraulic equipment were supplied.
The first metal tapping and the first slag tapping took place in November 2009, following which acceptance was granted. The plant produces around 320 t of titanium-oxide slag per day.
Titanium-oxide slag is processed into white pigments which are used for coloring varnishes and paints, paper, creams, plastics and many more items.
