Stillwater Mining Company Fatal Accident Update

BILLINGS, MT--(Marketwire - November 01, 2011) - STILLWATER MINING COMPANY (NYSE: SWC) (TSX: SWC.U) (the "Company") previously reported that a fatal accident occurred at the Company's Stillwater Mine. Dale Alan Madson, 42, a Leadman Operator employed at Stillwater since April 2008, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon while working on the 3800 level of the mine. The accident is being investigated by the Company and representatives from the Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration. Mr. Madson's family has been notified. Mining operations were suspended following the incident and will resume with the evening shift today.
