Production of Iron Ore
The Union Minister for Steel Shri Beni Prasad Verma has said that during the year 2010-11, iron ore production in the country was estimated as 208.11 million tonnes, out of which about 111.4 million tonnes was estimated to be consumed domestically by iron and steel industry, while 97.66 million tonnes was exported.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, he said that the production of iron ore in the country was about double the consumption of iron ore by the domestic iron & steel industry and therefore, is sufficient to meet the present requirement of iron ore by the steel sector in the country.
