New York high-rise with stainless steel from ThyssenKrupp Nirosta
Over the past few years, an impressive new skyscraper has been erected in Manhattan, the heart of New York City. The facade of the 228 meter tall building features stainless steel supplied by ThyssenKrupp Nirosta (Krefeld/Germany). The global headquarters of financial service providers Goldman Sachs has now opened for business, and more than 9,000 employees have moved into offices there since January 2010.
For ThyssenKrupp Nirosta, the high-rise is a further showpiece for the use of stainless steel from Germany. "Stainless steel is being used more and more in the construction of high-rise buildings," says Gert Weiß, head of product service at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta. "Architects are attracted not only by the material's durability, but also by the variety of finishes available and its consistent high quality even over large areas."
Construction work on the new Goldman Sachs headquarters building started in late 2005. It was designed by the renowned US architectural firm of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners. The 43-story building overlooking the Hudson River is equipped with a special eco-friendly underfloor air system. The facade is made from Nirosta 4404 (1.0/2.0 mm thick panels in a width of 1,500 mm and various lengths) with a "Linen" (2M) finish. In total ThyssenKrupp Nirosta supplied 400 metric tons of material.

ThyssenKrupp Nirosta (Krefeld) is one of the world's leading manufacturers of stainless flat products and has supplied material for numerous skyscrapers, including the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The company has several sites in Germany and employs around 4,200 people.
