CSE launches courses on environmental management and climate change


  • Month-long environmental management course set to begin in June 2010

  • E-course on climate change launched


New Delhi, March 26, 2010: New Delhi-based research and advocacy organisation, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), has announced a month-long course on environment management in India. The course will be conducted by CSE’s education and training unit – the Anil Agarwal Green College or AAGC – and has been titled ‘Agenda for survival: A certificate course on the policies and practices of environmental management in India’. It will be conducted at the AAGC’s New Delhi campus from June 1-30, 2010.


The course, which offers 30 seats, is open to young professionals and college students from any stream. Over the one month of its duration, it will allow the participants to familiarise themselves with topics ranging from environmental movement in India, poverty, biomass economy and ecological rights to wildlife management, challenges of urban growth and sustainable industrialisation. The programme also incorporates a week-long field trip to rural India to explore eco-restoration efforts at the grassroots level.


CSE has also introduced an e-course on climate change, titled ‘Global Warming in a Still Unequal World’. According to Sharmila Sinha of CSE, this is an “e-primer on the phenomenon, science and politics of climate change, from the point-of-view of a developing country offers a practical, interactive, repository of information on climate issues, with contextual readings, video clips and podcasts.”


Participants in the course can download and read the various modules offline. The course incorporates assignments aimed at enhancing the learning experience. Moderators include staff members of CSE’s climate programme and external climate policy experts.
