Earth Hour @ Ashok Leyland

No 1, Sardar Patel Road, Guindy. The headquarters of Hinduja Group flagship, Ashok Leyland, these days sports a 145ft x 6ft banner announcing Earth Hour.

On March 27, 2010, along with a growing global community that will switch off lights between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm, this building too will stand in darkness, in symbolic support of the Earth’s cause.

For the 14,000 employees of Ashok Leyland across the country, Earth Hour is all too familiar. Last year, many observed the prescribed hour along with their families, thanks to email messages and sms alerts encouraging them to support the cause.

The Corporate Office is by itself a ‘green’ building. Designed and built for high energy efficiency, conservation of natural resources including water, generation of less waste and providing a healthy environment to its occupants, it has received a Gold Rating under the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) by Indian Green Building Council.

It is part of Ashok Leyland’s comprehensive environmental consciousness as reflected in pioneering work in eco-friendly propulsion systems and alternative fuels as also eco-friendly technologies and processes across its seven energy-efficient manufacturing units.

Ashok Leyland was also the first Indian auto company to receive the coveted ISO/TS 16949 Corporate Certification in 2006.
