Maharashtra Gets Third NMIZ as Anand Sharma Takes the Tally of NMIZS to Nine
TUFS Extended to 12th Plan, to Get More Funds
The Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Shri Anand Sharma announced ninth National Investment and Manufacturing zone(NIMZ), a third for Maharashtra in Nagpur today. “I am happy to inform that ‘in-principle’ approval has been accorded to the proposal given its significance” said the Minister after inaugurating the National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (NIIPM) in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Prithviraj Chavan and Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Mukul Wasnik. The proposed NIMZ area is situated in Kuhi and Umred Taluka of Nagpur district and has an area of 6280 hectares. It will attract investment of approx. Rs. 25,000 crores and will provide gainful direct and indirect employment to 2,60,000 people of the Nagpur district.

The first 7 Investment Regions under NIMZs were
• Ahmedabad-Dholera Investment Region, Gujarat (900 sq km)
• Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Park city near Aurangabad, Maharashtra (84 sq km)
• Manesar-Bawal Investment Region, Haryana (380 sq km)
• Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana Investment Region, Rajasthan (150 sq km)
• Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Investment Region, Madhya Pradesh (370 sq km)
• Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region, Uttar Pradesh (250 sq km) and
• Dighi Port Industrial Area, Maharashtra (230 sq km).
Later, Jodhpur-Pali Region was added to the list

Shri Sharma also announced state of the art convention centre at Nagpur on a land provided by the State government. Such convention centres have been established in Chennai and Bangaluru in partnership with the respective States. Cost of construction would be met from the ASIDE scheme of the central government.

The Minister also directed that a virtual APEDA Centre be established at Nagpur. APEDA already has a full fledged office at Mumbai which has been functioning since 1990. In the States where APEDA does not have a physical office, its activities are conducted in conjunction with the respective state Governments, through virtual offices.

Later at gathering of industry leaders from the Vidarbha and other regions of the State organized by CII Shri Sharma was apprised of the issues pertaining to Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), an Airport cum SEZ. Acknowledging the need to rework the SEZ scheme, Shri Sharma announced that a comprehensive review of the SEZ guidelines and fine tune them for retaining their attractiveness is underway.

He also announced TUFS has been extended for the 12th five year Plan. “ There will be more allocation under the 12 th plan then under the 11th plan, so "those in textiles sector must feel assured that the government is conscious what their needs are” said Shri Sharma
