Conservation of Oil & Gas is an Urgent Patriotic Task: Oil Minister
Shri reddy Inaugurales Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight 2012

The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri S. Jaipal Reddy has emphasised that the conservation of oil and gas for which country is heavily import dependent is an urgent patriotic task for the people of the country. Inaugurating Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight 2012 (OGCF 2012) here today, he said that as we need to import on a huge scale amounting to over 75% of our needs every year, need for conservation is all the more urgent in India than elsewhere. Shri Reddy quipped, “ burning less oil & gas is of burning importance today as these fossil fuels are finite, we may one day runt out of it. ”

The Minister called for following small tips in various spheres of our lives to save energy/fuels. The children could be very good teachers to their parents and others, in imparting the lessons on conservation, Shri Reddy said directing his attention to a large number of school children who had assembled to take home conservation tips. The OGCF is organized by Petroleum Conservation and Research Association (PCRA) every year in January to mark and spread the message of conservation of oil & gas in all major cities at the same time. A number of school children among others are mobilized who take an Oath on the theme of conservation. Those who excelled in conservation efforts in different fields were awarded on the occasion. These included the school children who stood first/second in essay and painting competitions.

Shri G.C. Chaturvedi, Secretary (PNG) also addressed the gathering and stressed the need for conservation of oil & gas. The Petroleum Minister administered the Oath and gave away the Awards to the winner students of essay and painting competitions. Publicity vehicles carrying message/tips for saving oil & gas were also Flagged-off at the national level programme.
