BIHAR GOVERNMENT TO HONOUR VICE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF

The Governor of Bihar will honour Lt Gen SK Singh, the Army Vice Chief, in Patna on 25th Jan, for being conferred with the ‘Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM)’ while commanding the Indian Army’s 14 Corps during 2009-10. The UYSM was bestowed on the General on Republic Day 2011, for outstanding service rendered in command of one of the most challenging operational areas of the Army in the Ladakh Sector of Northern Command which includes the Siachen Glacier. In addition, the award was in recognition of the extraordinary leadership displayed by Lt Gen SK Singh in the Indian Army’s humanitarian rescue and relief operations during OPERATION CLOUDBURST in August 2010.
Lt General SK Singh took over as Vice Chief on 01 Nov 2011 and has had extensive operational experience including the unique privilege of commanding the Siachen Brigade and an Infantry Division on Line of Control. Prior to taking over as the Vice Chief, he was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command. He is also presently the President of the Gorkha Brigade and the Colonel of 8 Gorkha Rifles since 01 Apr 2006.
