World Steel Association elects new officers and welcomes new members Paris, 12 October 2011– The Board of Directors of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) has elected the following new officers for 2011/2012: Chairman: Xiaogang Zhang, President, Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation Vice Chairmen: Hajime Bada, President & CEO, JFE Holdings Inc Alexey Mordashov, General Director, Severstal JSC Treasurer John Surma, Chairman and CEO, United States Steel Corporation The new officers are elected for one year, until October 2012. The Board of Directors met on the first day of worldsteel’s 45th Annual Conference in Paris, France. On behalf of the Board of Directors, the Director General of the World Steel Association, Edwin Basson thanked Hajime Bada, Chairman for 2010/2011, for his leadership and support over the past year. Edwin Basson said: “We welcome Xiaogang Zhang as the new Chairman, Hajime Bada and Alexey Mordashov as Vice Chairmen and John Surma as Treasurer. We are also delighted to welcome our new members on board”. “We are particularly pleased to see the continued growing membership from emerging countries whose economic development has generated remarkable growth in the global steel industry over the last two decades. Our growing new membership is able to access key best practices in the areas of safety and health, technology and environment."
