Steel Minister Reviews Performance of MECON Ltd.
The Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has reviewed the performance of MECON Ltd. (upto 2nd Quarter), a PSU under Ministry of Steel, for the year 2011-12 here today. The CMD of MECON, Shri A.K. Ghosh has briefed the Minister about the performance of the company and highlighted its achievements.
It was informed in the meeting that business procured by MECON upto 2nd Quarter of the year 2011-12 has been Rs. 298.07 crore. Turnover upto the 2nd quarter of the year 2011-12 was Rs. 240.57 crore (provisional). The net worth of the company increased to Rs.237.42 crore (provisional) as on 30.09.2011.
The Minister emphasized on the need for performance improvement by MECON. At the same time he also appreciated MECON for its efforts aimed at benefiting stakeholders, especially those in surrounding villages under its CSR policy. Shri Verma lauded MECON’s efforts at providing healthcare, education facilities and for creating self employment opportunities for youth and assisting in infrastructural development.
MECON emphasized that the company is rendering design and engineering services to 11 Steel Plants across the country. Besides, MECON is also providing Project Management Services to prestigious Integrated Steel Plant projects comprising a 2.5 million tonnes per annum steel project for SAIL at ISP, Burnpur and a 3 million tonne per annum project for NMDC at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh. Only recently, the company has extended its activities in sectors like Power, Oil & Gas and Infrastructure.
