KraussMaffei Berstorff showcases solutions for higher productivity and efficiency in compounding and extrusion
– • New: vacuum side air extraction for filled and reinforced plastics
– • Innovative technologies that secure competitive advantage
(Friedrichshafen , October 19, 2011) With its clear strategic orientation, KraussMaffei Berstorff is in a strong position to master future challenges in the extrusion industry. At the Fakuma, the company will be showing customers concrete solutions to exploit major trends in extrusion technology – example given it’s compounding highly-filled compounds.
KraussMaffei Berstorff well-prepared for future trends
“We’re observing many trends in the extrusion sector which we are already well-positioned to face. We’re already supplying our customers with high-caliber machines and systems and we’ll continue to expand our product and service portfolio,” commented Dr. Hans Ulrich Golz head of KraussMaffei Berstorff. One major trend is the demand for continuous output growth in filling and reinforcing plastics. KraussMaffei Berstorff’s new vacuum degassing system for twin-screw extruder feed systems (ZSFE) is a response to this trend. The system, which is on show at the Fakuma, is available for the company’s ZE UTX and ZE UT series. It’s setting new standards in productivity and cost-effectiveness in compounding. Vacuum degassing can as much as triple output, depending on the apparent density of the filler being used, compared with side feed without degassing. The system is optimally engineered for compounding with talcum, wood flour, lightweight chalks and other bulky materials used in filling compounds.
KraussMaffei Berstorff is right on trend with its engineering
“Our power to innovate is helping us to secure our leading market position for the long term,” says Dr. Golz. Take the trend towards demand for higher-value materials and complex material systems – here KraussMaffei Berstorff can rely on its proven 36D single-screw extruders, for example, for polyolefin processing. The company offers an effective system for crosslinking PE pipe in an inline production process (PE-Xa pipe production). “Then there’s the growing trend for reducing consumption of energy, other resources and costs,” comments Dr. Golz.
With its innovative IPC (Internal Pipe Cooling) system, KraussMaffei Berstorff is winning customers worldwide – IPC gives producers the option of either reducing the length of the cooling zone by up to 40% or alternatively increasing output by up to 60%. In profile extrusion, KraussMaffei Berstorff offers flexible, space-saving coextrusion models, which are helpful in processing recycled materials – another growth trend – and in processing materials with higher filler content, and also natural-fiber reinforced plastics. EVA films for photovoltaic panels are another growth market. Here KraussMaffei Berstorff can supply sheet systems, headed by a twin-screw extruder, for inline EVA film production. Films produced on these systems are high quality products with very low shrinkage.
