FOODTECH INDIA 2011 flagged off
Kolkata, October 14, 2011: FOODTECH INDIA 2011 Kolkata, one of the largest International exhibition on food industry in India, was flagged off today at a gala function attended by many dignitaries and industry representatives. The three-day mega exhibition from October 14th to 16th, 2011, is being held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The premier exhibition is organised each year in Kolkata by Delhi-based firm N K Kapur & Co Pvt Ltd. This is the 10th year of FOODTECH INDIA 2011 which has three main segments namely Food Processing, Bakery & Confectionery and Food Service Industry. The West Bengal Government has also been actively participating in the Exhibition.
“This year 80 companies from all over India are participating in FOODTECH India 2011. Many foreign brands are also being represented through channel partners. Manufacturers, corporates, associations and the local state government are also participating. FOODTECH INDIA showcases under one roof the latest development in the food - technology, processing and manufacturing – in India. It also has a large representation from the hotel and tourism sector, retailers, caterers, packing firms, food consultants, food technologists, equipment manufacturers, banks and financial institutions, end-to-end solutions providers and others from all over India. FOODTECH INDIA has emerged as one of the largest exhibition of its kind in India,” said Mr Zakir Hossain, Regional Head, N K Kapur & Co.
The Indian food industry requires huge amount of raw materials, machinery and technology. FOODTECH INDIA has emerged as the best platform where all the stakeholders in this sector find an opportunity to meet their various requirements, showcase the latest products and technologies and scout for business opportunities.
Food processing is a sunrise sector in India and holds enormous potential for West Bengal which is one of the three leading states in India in Food & Agri Processing sector having achieved self sufficiency in most key crops according to a McKinsey report. As per Ministry of Food Processing data the total market for Bakery Products in India is about 1.5 million tons in the organised and unorganised sectors. The Rs 2000 crore bread market in India is growing at 7% per annum and is estimated to have a base of 2 million bakeries.
The increase of per capita income and burgeoning middle class base have contributed to the steady expansion of Indian food industry which is currently estimated at US $ 200 billion. The size of this market is projected to touch US $300 billion by 2015. The Indian food service industry is set to register a healthy 7.34 % annual growth rate. The West Bengal government is also participating in FOODTECH INDIA 2011 and is providing information on various incentives and schemes for setting up food processing units in the state.
