Dear Chawm Ganguly,

Land Mafia aided by 2 local leaders of Trinamool Congress are illegally occupying the playground and tearing down the walls at our charitable school for poor children and women, at the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society Vidyapith/ Shakti Empowerment Education Foundation www.SEEschool.org and Satish Palchowdhury Trust at Ghatak Para, Ranaghat.

For 17 years, our foundation has provided free education for 300 children and women, literacy, vocational classes and village women’s micro-financing, a library and clinic for the poor. Founded by my father Ajay Pal-Chaudhuri and myself donating our life savings, the foundation has helped thousands, and has gained supporters around the world. The school has been featured in numerous articles, including Times of India and Hindustan Times, and on the American TV documentary series “Double Exposure,” now airing in over 50 countries.

Now the 10ft high walls and gates have been torn down, and men with sticks occupy the grounds. We have court injunctions against these criminal acts by the promoters and land mafia. These facts are known by the Chairman of Ranaghat Municipality & M.L.A, Sri Partha Chatterjee.

We ask Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress, and the Indian media to hold local leaders accountable to protect justice and law and this charitable school and grounds from illegal occupation and harassment, and restore the damages of 10laks rs caused by tearing down the playground walls, and support the rights of women and children to receive free education at Ghatak Para, Ranaghat.

Here is the petition at Change.org:

PS. Indrani is a globally acclaimed photo professional who wanted to do her bit for Bengal through this school. While i do not know her personally, i am a huge fan of her work. We will bring shame on ourselves if we do not stand up and be counted, now when it matters. Dear friends please raise your hand in support, if not for Indrani, for the hapless children at the lest?
