PEACE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT CONGO

13 SIKH LI Inf Bn Gp (MONUSCO) begun the celebrations for the ‘International Day Of Peace’ at Kiwanza and Rutshuru city of Congo in close coordination with civil MONUSCO (Goma) and Local Youth association – ‘UMAJO CARGO’ on 17 Sep 11. An effort is being made by the ‘BLUE TURBANS’ to strike the chord of people of this area. To commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace as also remind everyone here that UN is dedicated and devoted to worldwide peace, INDBATT-II supported and ensured the security aspects of a march past with local people holding the banners for peace from Kiwanza to Rutshuru. This was followed by a large scale congregation of people at Rutshuru stadium including the Territorial deputy chief, Groupment chief, Seniors officials from Civil administration, representatives from Police (PNC) as well as high level delegation from Goma.

Col Vijay Mahadevan, the Commanding Officer of the unit expressed MONUSCO’s permanent commitment, above all interests or differences of any kind towards peace. The celebrations in Rutshuru would continue till 21 Sep, which is the official International day of peace, however, 13 SIKH LI INF BN GP (MONUSCO) would relentlessly continue with their efforts to ensure peace in Rutshuru territory by safeguarding powerless, innocent civilians, fathers, mothers and children of this place till such time they are deployed here.
