Blessing and Laying of the Foundation Stone for the Twin Hostel Construction of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata

September 28, 2011, Wednesday, is an auspicious and a red letter day in the calendar of St. Xavier’s College, it is on this day after the due sanctioning of KMC, the twin hostel project site is being blessed by Fr. Jeyaraj Velusamy, S. J., Provincial of the Kolkata Jesuit Province and the Foundation Stone is being unveiled and placed by Fr. J. Felix Raj, S. J., the Principal of the College. The hostel site is situated at 219/1 AJC Bose Road, Kolkata-700 017. The area is close to one acre of land which was given to College had opened a hostel which was called Beckbagan hostel and which had a capacity of 75 seats.

St. Xavier’s College has been running three hostels for a long time, two hostels within the Park Street campus and one at AJC Bose Road with a total capacity of 250 seats. Now with the construction of the two new hostels, the capacity will increase by 100%. The move is also to achieve two birds with one stone, i. e., two new hostels with a capacity of 500 seats and the old Park Street hostel to be placed at the disposal of the College expansion with 36000 square feet. The College plans to open more postgraduate departments in the available space.

In the E-M Bypass property, the College is planning to construct a new building for Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC). The EMMRC will be shifted to E- M Bypass from Park Circus once the construction is complete. The College is also planning a campus at E-M Bypass as well as in Rajarhaat. In E-M Bypass, there will be more PG departments, one Research Centre and a Hostel. The Rajarhaat campus will house Management Institutes like XLRI, XIMB, etc.
