Mineral Production during June 2011 in Indian Bureau of Mines



The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector in June 2011 was lower by 3.30% compared to that of the preceding month. However the mineral sector has shown a positive growth of 0.59% during June 2011 as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during June 2011 was Rs. 15693 crore. The contribution of petroleum (crude) was the highest at Rs. 5295 crore (34%). Next in the order of importance were: coal Rs 3699 crore, iron ore Rs. 4028 crore, natural gas (utilized) Rs. 1230 crore, lignite Rs. 382 crore and limestone Rs. 291 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in June 2011.

Production level of important minerals in June 2011 were: coal 387 lakh tonnes, lignite 36 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 3951 million cu.m., petroleum (crode) 32 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1158 thousand tonnes, chromite 307 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 11 thousand tonnes, gold 219 kg., iron ore 194 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 11 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 246 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 99 thousand tonnes, apatite & Phosphorite 203 thousand tonnes, dolomite 421 thousand tonnes, limestone 210 lakh tonnes, magnesite 20 thousand tonnes and diamond 1101 carat.

In June 2011 the output of manganese ore increased by 6.61%, magnesite 6.20%, zinc conc. 2.79%, apatite & phosphorite 2.45%, iron ore 2.20 percent. However the production of gold decreased by 0.45%, petroleum (crude) 1.95%, natural gas (utilized) 3.14%, limestone 4.86%, dolomite 5.17%, coal 6.09%, copper conc. 6.38%, lead conc. 6.46%, bauxite 8.68%, lignite 15.29% and chromite 17.60 percent.
