All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural and Rural Labourers on Base 1986-87=100 –May, 2011
The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for May, 2011 increased by 5 points each to stand at 592 (Five hundred and ninety two) points for both the series.
The rise/fall in index varied from State to State. In case of Agricultural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 to 11 points in 16 States and a decrease of 2 and 3 points in 2 States. It, however, remained constant in 2 States. Haryana with 650 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 479 points stood at the bottom.
In case of Rural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 1 to 10 points in 17 States and a decrease of 3 and 4 points in 2 States. It, however, remained constant in 1 State. Haryana with 645 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 500 points stood at the bottom.
The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural and Rural Labourers in respect of Maharashtra State registered the maximum increase of 11 points and 10 points respectively due to increase in the prices of jowar, bajra, goat meat, milk, chillies dry, vegetables & fruits, gur, country liquor and firewood. On the other hand, the Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers in respect of Haryana State recorded the highest decrease of 3 points and 4 points respectively mainly due to decrease in the prices of wheat atta, onion, turmeric and vegetables & fruits.
Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 9.11% in April, 2011 to 9.63% in May, 2011 for both the series. Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI–RL are 7.50% and 7.48% respectively in May, 2011.
