Lt Gen TK Sapru, General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Western Command of the Indian Army today reviewed an impressive investiture parade here today. He gave away awards for gallantry to 16 personnel and for devotion to duty and distinguished services to 37 others. The parade was commanded by Maj Gen KJS Oberoi and had contingents from 61 Cavalry, seven infantry regiments and the territorial army. Various components of mechanised forces, artillery, engineers and a motorcycle display team the also participated.
After review of the parade, Lt Gen Sapru gave away the awards. The gallantry awards, all Sena Medals were given away to 11 officers, and five other ranks two of them posthumously. Smt Sundri Devi received the award bestowed on her martyr husband Naik Desh Raj of 34 Rashtriya Rifles who killed one terrorist hiding in a house in a face to face battle. Smt Manju Devi received the award bestowed on her martyr husband Guardsman Sandeep Yadav of 21 Rashtriya Rilfes who killed one terrorist in J&K, single handedly.
Another 13 personnel received Sena Medals for devotion to duty and the balance 24 personnel were awarded the Vishishst Seva Medals.
Lt Gen TK Sapru congratulated the participants for high standard of the parade.
