Boral Timber is proud to announce that it has achieved Chain of Custody certification for its
hardwood product range, demonstrating its commitment to securing a sustainable future for
Australia’s natural resources, and building a stronger market position against non-certified and
illegal wood products. This achievement builds on the previously awarded Chain of Custody
Certification for Boral Plywood and Boral Sawmillers Exports.
Chain of Custody certification (AS 4707 – 2006) confirms that Boral Timber hardwoods are sourced from certified sources and the company can prove traceability of its wood materials from the forest through to the sale of its products to customers.
What this means for architects, specifiers and designers is that by using Boral Timber hardwoods, they are supporting sustainably managed timber harvesting and timber processing, which is vital for the long-term future of Australia’s forestry and wood product resources. Furthermore, by specifying timber, the industry is utilising the only fully natural and renewable building product available on the market today.
Boral Timber sources the bulk of its timber supply (both hardwoods and softwood) from AustralianForestry Standard (AFS) certified forests – the only forestry certification scheme in Australia tohave an Australian Standard (AS4708-2007). Specifically designed for Australian conditions, more than 95% of Australian certified forestry is AFS-certified.
The Boral Timber hardwoods Chain of Custody, linked to the Australian Forestry Standard, was
awarded through an independently audited process carried out by the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA) - accredited by JAS-ANZ.
"Boral is delighted to have achieved Chain of Custody certification for its hardwood timber supply, which builds on the Chain of Custody certification already achieved by Boral Plywood and Boral Sawmillers Exports. We are currently working on Chain of Custody certification for our softwood timber products, produced by our Highland Pine Joint Venture with Carter Holt Harvey, which we hope to achieve early in the year,” said Bryan Tisher, Executive General Manager for Boral Timber.
