On the auspicious occasion of 'Vijay Diwas' on 16 Dec 2008, Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil, HE, The President of India, released a commemorative postage stamp and special cover Fd Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC at a special ceremony held at Rastrapati Bhawan.
Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Shri AK Antony recalled the Field Marshals contribution during India victory in 1971 operations. Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor highlighted that there is no better way to honour the spirit of the great man on the occasion of 'Vijay Diwas' than by releasing the Commemorative postage Stamp on Fd Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC.
The Fd Marshal was born in Amritsar on 03 Apr 1914. He joined the first course at IMA, Dehradun and was commissioned into Frontier Force Regiment on 04 Feb 1934. He was a military genius, who excelled in all operations. A special mention is his getting critically wounded twice during the second world war and being honoured with Military Cross for his bravery. His passing away on 27th Jun 2008 has left a void. The Fd Marshal was honoured with Padam Bhushan and Padam Vibhushan for his exemplary service to the nation, by the Government of India.
