Shri Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology informed Rajya Sabha today in a written reply that the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) was approved by the Government of India in May 2006 with the vision to “make all government services accessible to the common man in his locality, through Common Service Delivery Outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man.” NeGP presently comprises of 31 Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) and 8 Support Components. The MMPs are implemented by the respective line Ministries/Departments and the State Governments, the Minister said.

The Minister further informed the Members that the MMPs are categorized into Central, Integrated and State MMPs. The State MMPs deliver state specific services including those at the grass root level. Around 275 service categories spanning across central, state and local government levels are planned to be delivered under these MMPs. The benefits likely to be accrued inter alia includes

1. improved service and service levels

2. availability of services at the doorstep of the common man
