Indian Army Chief, General Bikram Singh was
conferred the rank of an honorary General of the Nepalese Army, on 11 Jul
2012, in keeping with along-standing tradition, between the armies.
Nepal President conferred the honorary rank on General Bikram Singh
at a glittering special investiture ceremony in Kathmandu. The ceremony was
attended by the Prime Minister of Nepal, members of the
cabinet, Chief of the
Nepal Army and other important dignitaries.
Speaking on the
occasion, Gen Bikram Singh said that it was a great honour to have been
bestowed with honorary rank of General in Nepal Army. This will further
strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries and their
armies.
Previously, Nepal Army Chief General Chhatra Man Gurung
was conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army by
President Pratibha Patil during his visit to New Delhi in December
2009.
