India and Québec (A Canadian Province) Discuss Cooperation in the Field of Mineral Resources

A delegation led by Mr. Clément Gignac, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, the Province of Québec, Canada called on the Minister of Mines, Shri Dinsha J. Patel here today to discuss and explore the areas of cooperation between Québec’s and India’s mining sectors.

The meeting was held to encourage and stimulate mining investments, to exchange expertise and create joint businesses in Québec and in India. The areas of cooperation include mining tenement system and geoinforamtics, technologies, services and equipment for exploration and development of metals and minerals; environmental technologies and services; human resource training and development; promotion of investments and information-sharing in the areas of research and innovation.

Welcoming the delegation Shri Patel mentioned the leading role being played by the Government of Québec in mining sector and said that both sides should make efforts to carry the cooperation further for mutually beneficial interests.

Shri Patel said that Québec can play a significant role in our efforts for sustainable mineral development incorporating latest technologies and added that this cooperation under discussion can be of great help to meet mutually beneficial goals for both the countries.

The two sides also discussed the best practices that protect the health of mine workers. Mr Patel informed Mr Gignac that India lays highest stress on workers’ safety and this issue is handled by the Ministry of Labour in Government of India.
