Development of Coal Gasification Projects
With a view to developing Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) potential in our country for energy production, Govt. has notified UCG as one of the end uses under captive coal mining policy. This notification has paved the way for taking up UCG by public/private entrepreneurs. Further, guidelines have been issued on 13/7/2009 for allotment of UCG blocks and carrying out commercial exploitation of UCG.
Five lignite blocks and two coal blocks have been identified for offer to various companies for taking up UCG projects.
This information was given by the Minister of Coal, Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
