EMPOWERING THE “SCHOLAR WARRIOR”

The Army has over the last two years embarked on an ambitious first time initiative for Empowerment of its cadres under Project ‘Samarth’. The first MoU was signed with IGNOU on 04 September 2009. ‘Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd’ came on board for providing basic skills in Information Technology and English Speaking on 08 Dec 2009. In the series of empowerment projects an MoU was signed with Pondicherry University on 13 Jan 2011 to initiate the process of education of Army personnels in higher education.
Today is yet another Red letter day when an MoU has been signed with BITS, Pilani. The venture will benefit a large number of Army personnel.
The goal of this academic and research cooperation, between the Army and BITS PiIani, is to jointly establish a ‘Centre of Excellence’ at BITS Pilani which will also foster, promote facilitate :-
Exchange of information on educational programmes run by BITS as part of on-campus and off-campus programmes and on research and innovation currently undertaken by BITS at its campuses in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad.
Army to Sponsor Serving officers to undergo formal on-campus and off-campus educational programmes.
Visits by BITS’s faculty to Army establishments to better understand educational and technology needs of the Army, and visits by serving Army officers to BITS campuses to engage in research and innovation.
