ANDRITZ HYDRO receives international

orders to equip four hydropower plants

Graz/Vienna, February 3, 2011.  International technology Group ANDRITZ received orders to supply the electromechanical equipment for the new hydropower plants Hissmofors, Sweden, and Pare, India, as well as for the refurbishment of the existing hydropower plants Hills Creek, USA, and Rio Macho, Costa Rica. Aggregate order value for all four contracts is approximately 80 MEUR.

Hissmofors, Sweden

To Jämtkraft, ANDRITZ HYDRO will supply the complete electromechanical equipment for their Hissmofors hydropower plant located 20 km to the west of Östersund in central Sweden. The order includes delivery of two Kaplan turbines (output 34 MW each), two synchronous generators, and additional equipment. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2013.

Pare, India

Under a contract with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO), ANDRITZ HYDRO will deliver the equipment for the new Pare hydropower plant in District of Papumpare, Arunachal Pradesh. The scope of supply comprises design, delivery, installation and commissioning of the complete electro-mechanical equipment, including two vertical Francis turbines (output 55 MW each), generators, main inlet valves, control and protection system, power and control cables, and additional equipment. The order is expected to be completed at the end of 2013.

Hills Creek, USA

The US Army Corps of Engineers in Portland has awarded ANDRITZ HYDRO with the contract to refurbish the Hills Creek hydropower plant in Oakridge, Oregon. The order includes model testing, supply of two new vertical Francis runners (output 16 MW each), the hydromechanical equipment, rewind of both generators, as well as refurbishment of additional power plant equipment. Recommissioning is scheduled for 2014. ANDRITZ HYDRO is thus strengthening its leading market position for refurbishment of hydropower plants in the USA. In 2010, ANDRITZ HYDRO was awarded refurbishment contracts for the Webber Falls, Spring Creek, Lay Dam, Bouldin Dam, and Hoover dam hydropower plants.

Rio Macho, Costa Rica

Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has awarded ANDRITZ HYDRO a contract to supply the electromechanical equipment for the modernization of Rio Macho hydropower plant units 1 and 2, which were installed in 1959 and 1963 respectively. The scope of supply includes two horizontal Pelton turbines (output 18 MW each), generators, automation and additional equipment. As a result of this refurbishment, which is scheduled for completion in 2013, the output of the hydropower plant will be increased by around 8%. Decisive for the award of this order were also the many years of good business relations between ICE and ANDRITZ HYDRO – ANDRITZ HYDRO has already supplied almost half of the electromechanical equipment for ICE.
