Dedini orders a VD/VOD facility with mechanical pumps
Dedini S/A Indústrias de Base, Brazil, has awarded an order for a 30-/35-t VD/VOD facility for its Piracicaba works to SMS Concast, Switzerland. The plant will be treating 30- to 35-t heats of carbon steel, low-alloy and stainless steel grades. It will be operated together with an existing arc furnace with a conventional tapping spout. The layout of the plant makes provision for a ladle furnace for later retro¬fitting. The liquid steel produced will be cast into blooms and castings.
To enable production of steel grades with the lowest possible carbon content, the VD/VOD facility is being fitted with an oxygen-injection system for reduction of the carbon under vacuum. Dedini has decided to invest in Roots vacuum pumps in order to ensure cost-effective operation. The vacuum pump involves a mechanical design with sufficient intake capacity for VD and VOD operation. In order to protect the pumps against dust and to be as gentle as absolutely possible on the environment, the VD/VOD facility is being equipped with a vacuum bag-type filter. The dust generated under vacuum is separated from the off-gas flow.
It is intended that the VD/VOD facility will be commissioned at the end of March 2010.
