P. Chidambaram Releases Book on ‘Disaster Management in India’

Union Home Minister Shri P. Chidambaram released the book on Disaster Management in India prepared by Disaster Management Division in the Ministry of Home Affairs, here today. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chidambaram urged the stakeholders to come together by contributing their knowledge and experience in mitigating disaster in the country. He said that disaster management must become part of the general administration at the district level and first and second response at the ground level in States must be prepared. The Home Minister expressed the hope that the Book will be useful in disseminating knowledge on disasters and disaster management in the country.

The Minister assured commitment of Government of India to provide all possible financial as well technical help to tackle the menace of all types of disasters including manmade as well as natural. Also, he welcomed suggestions and feedback from all the end users of this document for improving the efforts made by Ministry of Home Affairs further in managing the different facets of disasters.

The book brought out by the MHA provides detailed information on the institutional framework and policy guidelines in disaster management in the country. It also focuses on the specific aspects of different types of disasters, the ways and means for prevention and mitigation besides giving details about preparedness and response in a disaster situation. It also deals with the capacity development to meet disasters and the future roadmap in tackling disasters.

Shri. P Shashidhar Reddy, VC, NDMA, MoS in the Ministry Shri. Mullapally Ramachandran and Shri. Jitendra Singh were also present on this occasion.
