He further added, “With Volkswagen we celebrate a successful first year of the work undertaken in Pune.”

Volkswagen India recently celebrated the first successful year of the completion of its Chakan plant. Volkswagen is also developing its sales and service network parallel to increasing production of its cars.

Commenting on this, Mr. Joerg Mueller said, “In 2007 the brand “Volkswagen” had just one dealer. Today it has more than 40. By the end of 2010 there should be around 60 partners in the network.” He further added, “After the development phase of the production, which is almost over, we will strengthen our focus on our market aims. For that the skills and qualification according to the high standards of Volkswagen will be intensified and a newly started training centre will be used.”

The Indian ambassador, who introduced the economic growth, the rich culture and the huge diversity in his country at the lecture, also elaborated on the booming car market in India. There were 1.7 million cars sold in India after 2009 and the number is set to rise to 2 million. The main reason for that is the developing middle class in India which has created a demand for car-mobility.
