Rio Tinto’s diamonds wow the Oscars crowd
New York, February 27, 2012 – The nine winners of Rio Tinto’s global jewellery design competition were thrust into the spotlight as they showcased their winning diamond jewellery creations to celebrities and stylists at the StyleLab jewellery suite at the 84th Academy Awards.
According to Michael O’Connor, jewellery and style expert and a judge on the panel for Rio Tinto’s global jewellery design competition,“I was amazed by the beauty and level of craftsmanship in the award winning designs,which certainly caught the attention of Hollywood notables.”
Celebrities poured over the diamond jewellery, which showcased the full range of Rio Tinto’s diamonds, including the champagne, white and Silvermist jewels. Rebecca Foerster, Manager of Rio Tinto Diamonds’ US Representative said the celebrities were very impressed by the designers’ use of diamonds to create show stopping,contemporary pieces, commenting: “They truly captured the elegance of the Academy Awards”.
The nine winners were selected from a record number of entries from the US, Canada, Australia, India and Hong Kong to have their pieces made exclusively for the 2012 Oscars.
The designs represented four categories of jewellery design: Champagne, Silvermist, Canadian Diamonds and Sustainable Jewellery.
