ThyssenKrupp Elevator opens new elevator plant in Madrid
In addition to production operations, site also houses a research and development center
ThyssenKrupp Elevator has opened one of its most advanced production facilities in the Spanish capital Madrid. The new elevator plant was officially inaugurated by His Royal Highness Felipe de Borbón, Crown Prince of Spain and Prince of Asturias, on March 18, 2011 in the presence of Dr. Heinrich Hiesinger, Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG, and Dr. Olaf Berlien, Chairman of the Management Board of the Elevator Technology business area. In addition to various production operations, the new plant also houses a research and development center with a 41 meter elevator test tower. Later, a logistics warehouse, an office building, a showroom and an international training center will be added step by step to the roughly 60,000 square meter site. Completion is scheduled for 2014.
"The new plant in the Móstoles Technology Park brings together our know-how in research and development, our production capacities and other organizational units at a single location in Madrid," says Javier del Pozo, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East. "This consolidation from development to production to delivery will enable us to respond faster and more flexibly to our customers' wishes."
Among other things, the new plant - located around 20 kilometers outside the city center - will produce "synergy" machine room-less elevators for the Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East sales area and ship them direct to customers in more than 50 countries from the on-site logistics center. Since the market launch in 2007, more than 20,000 of these energy-efficient, space-saving elevators have been sold and installed in these regions.
