Siemens modernizes the Continuous Annealing line at SSAB EMEA in Sweden: New migration strategy accelerates upgrade and simplifies transfer of user programs

The Swedish flat-steel producer SSAB EMEA commissioned Siemens to equip the continuous annealing line at the production facility in Borlänge with new automation and drive systems. A new migration strategy was developed to allow existing user programs and the associated plant-specific data to be further used. The migration strategy makes it possible not only to automatically transfer a series of plant functions but also to replace the existing automation solution of a third-party supplier. The modernization project will be carried out during regularly scheduled maintenance downtimes and project completion is expected by the end of 2012.
