The Ministry of Water Resources has identified the following priority areas for research in water sector during XI Five Year Plan keeping in view the important issues related to Water Resources:
· Efficiency studies for completed major and medium irrigation projects;
· Effect of climate change on water resources;
· Studies in respect of adaptation as a consequence of effects of
climate change on water resources, including, simulation studies for selected water systems duly incorporating the features of changed scenario,;
· Reservoir sedimentation studies;
· Post facto evaluation and management plan for optimal benefit from the resources; and
· Initiation of benchmarking of irrigation projects for performance improvement etc.
Ministry of Water Resources proposes to take up research with active involvement of various research and academic institutions in the country which include Water and Land Management Institutes (WALMIs, all Central Research Institutes (related to water sector), all Research Institutes of State Governments (related to water sector), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi / Kanpur / Mumbai / Chennai /Kharagpur / Guwahati, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, all National Institutes of Technology and all Universities recognized by UGC.
The Ministry of Water Resources may provide support in this regard under its plan scheme “Research and Development Programme in Water Sector”.
