Dr.Kalam to Award the Degrees to Graduates at CHARUSAT’S First Convocation

Charotar University of Science and Technology (CHARUSAT) has scheduled its 1st Convocation on January 18, 2012 at 10:30 am. It is a matter of pride for CHARUSAT as Dr A. P Abdul Kalam: Architect of missile Programme of India would deliver the convocation address.

As addressed by Dr M. C Patel, Provost, CHARUSAT, the University has its parenthood in Shri Charotar Moti Sattavis Patidar Kelavani Mandal, a premier educational trust having a social lineage of more than 115 years. CHARUSAT has its origin in an engineering institute set up, in the year 2000, with four departments offering under-graduate education for 240 students. CHAUSAT became a full-fledged university under the Gujarat Private Universities Act 2009. At present, the university has within its ambit seven different educational institutions offering a total of 32 teaching programs, comprising 10 undergraduate programs, 16 postgraduate programs and 6 doctoral programs through its 6 faculties. The programs are offered in Engineering and Technology, Computer Applications, Pharmacy, Applied Sciences, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Management. About 4500 students are enrolled in these programs. Shri Surendrabhai Patel, President, CHARUSAT expressed that the University has set for itself the goal of being amongst the top 20 universities of the Nation by the year 2015. CHARUSAT is recognized to confer degrees under section 22 of UGC Act 1956.

Shri Surendrabhai Patel, President, CHARUSAT will preside over the proceedings of the Convocation. A number of celebrities from academia and administration along with the students receiving the degrees and their parents/ guardians among other guests will be present on this occasion.

The Registrar, Shri Devang Joshi has declared that the number of students to be awarded degrees at this Convocation is 160. Total of 8 gold medals will be awarded to the students: 2 gold medals for Faculty of Engineering and Technology, 1 gold medal for faculty of Pharmacy, 1 gold medal for Faculty of Management Studies, 4 gold medals for Faculty of Applied Sciences.

The vote of thanks will be proposed by Mr Devang Joshi, Registrar, Charusat.
