Birla High School Alumni Press Note by the President, Mr Chandra Kumar Karnani On the Occasion of the 15th Annual Reunion Concert on 14th January 2012
Kolkata, 14th January 2012 : Birla High School formerly known as Hindi High School was founded in Kolkata in 1942 by late Lakshmi Niwas Birla. It was established with the idea of sustaining and keeping the spiritual and Indian values along with western techniques to blend in a wholesome and harmonious discipline. Today, it is one of the premier educational institutes in Kolkata with more than 3500 students.
From generations our school has been blessed with visionaries and leading educationists as the Principal and his/her team. Our present Principal Ms Mukta Nain has continued the legacy and taken the school to new heights of success. We are all proud to say that our alma mater has been felicitated with the International School Award by the British Council and our Alumni has received the Best Alumni award by the Gurukul Awards.
Generations of students have benefitted from gaining knowledge in this and have gone along to achieve great success. The school boasts of having among its ex students, acclaimed persons in every field.
The Birla High School Alumni was founded 15 years back by a handful of ex students. Over the years, the membership has grown to more than 1200.
The occasion will be graced by Mr. S.K.Birla, Chairman and Mrs. S.K.Birla,Vice Chairman of Vidya Mandir Society; Mr. Chandra Kumar Karnani, President;Mr. Sanjay Jain, Convenor & Hony. Secretary.
Though the major purpose of an Alumni is of reuniting old friends and give them the opportunity to reminisce and recall about the life they have left behind, Birla High School Alumni is so much more than that. Our association is also about giving something back to school and society through the various programmes and projects we undertake.
We are forever indebted to our teachers for imparting us with knowledge. In the older days students gave their teachers Gurudakshina as a token of their gratitude. Today, in our own way, we are showing our appreciation, love and respect to all teachers through our Benevolent Trust among other means specially set up for our teachers.
In ways more than one, “Homecoming 2011-12” is about coming back home, because school is home for all of us which unfortunately we realised after leaving it. The evening will be made even more memorable by upcoming band “VOICES”.
