Demand and Supply of Crude Steel



The Minister of Steel, Shri Beni Prasad Verma has said that data on production, import, export and consumption of crude steel in India during the last three years, year-wise, is given below:-

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today he said, Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its Order dated 29th July, 2011 had directed to suspend all mining operations in Bellary District of Karnataka. Subsequently, the Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its order dated 5th August, 2011 has allowed NMDC Ltd. a public sector undertaking, to operate its iron ore mines in Bellary District to the extent of one Million Tonne per month commencing from 6th August, 2011 till further order. The suspension of mining operations in remaining iron ore mines of Bellary District may affect production of crude steel to some extent of steel industry located in Karnataka and neighbouring areas which were sourcing iron ore mainly from mines located in the State of Karnataka including Bellary District. He said, crude steel import will depend on the domestic demand and production in future.

India is now the biggest suppliers of steel worldwide. Steel Industries started after the Independence of India. India will become the biggest suppliers of steel in near future.
