ArcelorMittal staff taken hostage in Orissa and released

TNN reported that villagers opposing the ArcelorMittal project in Orissa took two government officials and three company employees hostage at Childa village of the district but freed them six hours later.

Those taken hostage were Mr Hrushikesh Ratha additional tehsildar of Patna, Mr Rangadhara Patra revenue inspector of Rajnagar and Mr Sarat Mishra, Mr Rajiv Padhi and Mr Tapan Sethy of ArcelorMittal. 

Additional DM Bhagabat Prasad Majhi said “All government and company officials are safe. They were released after we had a discussion with the villagers. The officials were detained when they had gone to demarcate land at Childa around noon.”

Mr PK Mishra, tehsildar of Patna said “The government had identified about five acres of land in Childa village in consultation with the gram sabha for a model housing complex to be built by the company for villagers.”
