Successful commissioning by SMS Siemag AG
Secondary gas-cleaning system at Tata Steel put successfully into operation A secondary gas-cleaning system has been successfully put into operation by SMS Siemag, a company of the SMS group, Germany, for Tata Steel Ltd., India.
With a suction capacity of 1.6 million cubic meters per hour, the plant collects all of the diffuse dust emissions from the BOF Steelworks LD1 at the Jamshedpur location in the Indian federal state of Jharkhand. The dust-laden air is then efficiently cleaned in two powerful Electro-Static Precipitators, ESP. This solution enables Tata Steel to exceed the values stipulated in the local environmental legislation.
The steelworks, likewise supplied by SMS Siemag, possesses two 150-t converters, a primary gas-cleaning system and a converter gas recovery system. At the same location, SMS Siemag is currently erecting a further oxygen steelmaking plant (LD3) for Tata Steel, with primary and
secondary gas-cleaning, converter gas recovery and CSP® facilities.
