SINCLAIRS RETREAT DOOARS now a member of The International Ecotourism Society

Kolkata 2nd September 2008: Sinclairs Retreat Dooars in Chalsa, part of the Sinclairs group of hotels, has become a member of The International Ecotourism Society, the world’s largest ecotourism organization dedicated to promoting ecotourism and responsible travel. 

Ecotourism is responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people. And those who implement and participate in ecotourism activities need to follow certain principles like building environmental and cultural awareness and respect, provide direct financial benefits for conservation, provide financial benefits and empowerment for local people, etc. 

 
Sinclairs Retreat Dooars, at Chalsa in North Bengal is an eco-friendly destination where extensive environment friendly practices are being adopted. These include rainwater harvesting, solar water heating, shredding dry leaves and plant twigs for conversion into bio-fertilizers, organic farming, etc. Also around 80% of the staff employed are from the local populace who have been suitably trained in their respective work areas.
